Mission

Our mission is to transform the current state of gender-based violence (global pandemic) into a near future where such violence is truly rare, and not simply suppressed.

3 main mission areas include prevention, intervention, and sustained thriving.

Prevention

  • The roots of early-life and later-life gender-based violence often begin in early childhood. This applies both to involvement as a perpetrator and involvement as a victim.
  • One of the clearest pathways for prevention of gender-based violence: ensure that women (especially Black women) have safe housing, food security, safe community involvement, and strategic preparation for sustained thriving.

Intervention

  • In marriage, dating, and other intimate relationships: often, by the time a person realizes they are unsafe with a partner, their partner already exerts physical, mental, social and or financial influence over them. In such cases, it's not unusual for someone to attempt to leave multiple times before finally being free. Commonly, the most dangerous time for someone in an unsafe relationship (physically and psychologically) is when they try to leave.
  • One of the clearest pathways for intervention is what we call "safer exit;"
strategic exit initiatives – coordinating legal, logistical, financial, technological, and mental health expertise within an appropriate framework – can be highly effective at removing survivors from immediate harm and also reaching sustained thriving.

Sustained Thriving

  • With awareness of the dire physical and mental health impacts of gender-based violence, we recognize physical safety and mental health support as the most fundamental requirements for survival; however, we see survival as necessary, but not enough.
  • Joy, sustained through safe community connection, safe housing, mentorship, sponsorship, mental health support, rest & recovery, education access, generational wealth establishment support, and engagement (creative, professional, mission-based, and/or entrepreneurial) are part of the framework and model we work to realize more fully through a collaborative ecosystem approach.
